As you know, volunteer management is much more than selecting and supervising volunteers. Volunteer management is a key position in the leveraging of an organization’s resources, on par with fundraising, development and human resources. Volunteer management is the gateway to the community, providing citizens with opportunities to become more involved in local issues and global causes, and serving as a grassroots source of public relations, marketing and development. Volunteer management ensures that there is community buy-in of an organization’s mission, thereby strengthening an organization’s credibility in the eyes of the public.

SWIDOVS networking has become a truly valuable resource to new and seasoned volunteer resource managers in the valley.  In order to increase public awareness and understanding of the value of leaders in volunteer engagement, advocate for professionalism in volunteer management, and keep up with current and rapidly changing volunteer engagement practices, it is now time to raise the bar on resources and in-service training offered to our SWIDOVS network partners.

Starting this Fall, SWIDOVS Leadership Team will be working on providing in-service training beyond our monthly meetings by:

• Partnering with local organizations to provide volunteer engagement tracks in their conferences.
  • Dues paying SWIDOVS members will receive discounts on fees for these conferences.
• Inviting professional speakers to present at extended in-service sessions beyond the 45 min. session at our monthly meetings.
  • Depending on the speaker and length of the session, a nominal fee may be attached
• Providing links to tools, research, and best practices pertaining to volunteer engagement.

In order to accomplish this goal, SWIDOVS will begin collecting annual dues of $20.00.

• The annual due date for dues will coincide with our meeting calendar year, August 1 – June 30.  Per your request, monthly meetings are not held in December, June and July, as these have traditionally been our busiest volunteer management months.
• Non-Dues paying members will continue to be welcomed at our monthly meetings and receive general informational emails.
• A receipt will be provided for reimbursement by your organization when indicated on Dues Form.

SWIDOVS continues to strive to provide professional networking opportunities to anyone in the volunteer resource management field while advocating for professionalism in volunteer engagement.

Unlike many “certificate” or certification programs being offered by colleges and universities, this professional credentialing program is performance-based. Intended for those with some experience, this self-study program measures an individual’s “knowledge-in-use” — the application of knowledge and skills by those with real-life experience in this role. This includes assessment of a candidate’s ability to structure tasks, process ideas, and solve problems.

Individuals wishing to become credentialed must meet these requirements in order to register as a candidate:

• Minimum of the equivalent of three years of full-time experience related to volunteer administration. This experience can be a combination of several part-time positions, and can include both salaried and non-salaried roles.
• Minimum of 30 percent of current position related to volunteer administration.
• Two letters of professional recommendation from supervisors or colleagues, verifying the candidate’s activity in the field and his/her appropriateness as a candidate for this credential.

Service Projects A signature part of the Serve Idaho Conference which allows participants to give back to the host community. If you are going to participate in a service project, please bring appropriate clothing for example painting clothes, work gloves, boots, warm coat, rain gear, etc.

2010 Hotel Information – A block of rooms will be reserved at the Coeur d’Alene Resort - 115 S. 2nd Street Coeur d’Alene. To reserve a room it will require a conference registration confirmation number. Room rates for the Conference will be $75 a night single/double occupancy.
